Our colleagues over at F-buddy in Australia recently posted an entertaining (and informative) piece on the average length of time it takes for a man and woman to orgasm. This prompted much discussion in the office over here in the UK as to what happens during an orgasm. This got so much debate going that we ended up compiling some facts and figures that we wanted to share with our users. You might find some of them useful.
Some of these facts it must be pointed out are the individual opinions of one or two people, but some have been sourced from independent studies following everyone running off to back up their claims with evidence!
Most interesting facts about orgasms
1. Men can have multiple orgasms – it’s not common but it happens!
2. The average resting heart rate for a woman is 70 beats per minute. During orgasm it climbs to 140 beats per minute.
3. The average duration of a male orgasm is between 3 to 5 seconds.
4. The average duration of a female orgasm is between 5-8 seconds.
5. 75% of men orgasm during sex.
6. Compared to only 29% of women.
7. Only 30% of women achieve orgasm during vaginal sex.
8. Both men and women probably have their first orgasm during masturbation.
9. Some experts claim that a woman can achieve maximum orgasm during the 14th day of her menstrual cycle – apparently this is when the female sex drive is the highest in the month.
10. Men can orgasm without ejaculating.
11. 15 minutes - The average time it takes a man to be ready for sex after ejaculating between the ages of 18-25
12. 30 minutes – The average time it takes a man to be ready for sex after ejaculating from the age of 26 and up.
13. Despite popular myth, an orgasm – male or female – cannot last for longer 60 seconds. The longest reported orgasm has been 45 seconds.
14. Premature ejaculation has no set time – most people refer to it as sex that lasts 2 minutes or less but many will say it’s any sex that ends before both parties want it to.
15. Men have a G-Spot – and it’s located about 2 inches inside the anus.
16. Despite popular belief that a good sex session has to last beyond 30 minutes, Dr Alfred Kinsey’s sexual research in the late 40s and early 50s revealed that most couples preferred sex sessions that lasted an average of 7 minutes.
