This seems like a stupid question considering this is an adult dating website designed to help people hook up for casual sex. The recent story of columnist Ali Reed’s fake dating profile has helped purport the mostly accurate fact that a lot of men are just looking for sex online as opposed to a more monogamous permanent relationship. But is online dating really a sex obsessed cattle market?
YES
Judging by the sheer amount of member numbers we have on a rolling basis every month, it would be hard for us to say that we’re not a bunch of sex obsessed individuals only looking for a good time between the sheets. Most of our members sign up purely with the aim of having NSA fun with a new partner or several. Yet we also know that some of our members have gone on to establish more permanent relationships with the people they have met in this community. After all if both parties are sexually compatible it is only natural that they might find out that they’re compatible in other ways too. We’re not saying it happens a lot, but it does happen and being obsessed with sex is not necessarily a bad thing when you look at it in this light.
NO…but YES
There are some people who are genuinely looking for something other then sex, so it would be naïve and stupid to suggest otherwise. Some of the most fruitful relationships have sprung out of people’s desire to merely meet someone who has similar interests and likes that they do. However sex still enters the equation at some point and it is here that people tend to say that ‘sex has nothing to do with connection’ when in fact it is perhaps the most important part of the connection.
So if online dating is a sex obsessed cattle market…is that a bad thing?
Yes and no. We’re human beings and as such crave basic human connections like sex. Why we place so much mystique and drama around it we’ll perhaps never know, but the fact is that we are a bunch of sex obsessed beings. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing, as long as you are honest about your intentions. If you start dating someone you just want to sleep with, but pretend that you’re interested in them for more then that, then you’re only damaging yourself and the other person. You’re helping no one, and this is why our site and others like it remain so popular. You don’t have to bow to the usual social conditions of dating. You both know what you want so there is no need to pretend.
As always our view is to be honest with yourself and with your potential and actual partners, and you can’t really go wrong.
Happy fucking!
